Monday January 23, Lunchbox
VERY cold morning today_ but I was not complaining as I love such wintry conditions.
Again the route to work was through Pontcanna Fields and along the River Taff _ which was seemingly at a standstill
A contented looking Magpie was walking across the path some 30 yards ahead of me_ and for good luck his comrade soon appeared 10 yards further on.
No squirrels [greys] were to be seen today _ their first non appearance for quite a while.
Perhaps they have got wind of the fact that the UK Government wants to cull their spiralling numbers?
Estimated to have a population of two million and growing. The powers that be say they are threatening to wipe out the indigenous red squirrel [through a disease carried by their grey cousins], as well as damaging woodland.
I don't want to see the red squirrel becoming extinct, but who brought the grey squirrel to the UK from North America?
Well they didn't decide to charter a boat and sail here! And globally who is the prime mover in de-forestation?
Yes it's the human race.
But be warned, the grey squirrel will not go down without a fight.... could be a re-run of the Americans in Vietnam. (head of the Squirrel Vietcon pictured above)
Lunchbox
2 Rich Tea biscuits
4 salmon sandwiches (smoked salmon and not tinned), with a hint of lemon juice
Miller Light yoghurt _ vanilla flavour.
Small container of strawberries and kiwi fruit cut into small slices.
1 apple and 2 satsumas.
What happened?
By 11am I had eaten the biscuits. Then by midday the sandwiches went the same way _ it was great to have fresh salmon and not the tinned variety.
Yoghurt went at midday _ just after the sandwiches _ again no spillages on my shirt or tie.... but I will remain vigilant.
Random Thought: Through the use of tiny little language chips _ placed behind a preferred ear _ people will be able to speak any language of their choosing by 2099.
For example by scrolling down a virtual screen in front of your eyes a Mexican and Frenchman would be able to communicate in any language _ whether they decide it be German or the language of the Apache tribe of North America,
Translators will have to re-train.
Have a joyous lunch!
